Rahim Pirmuhammedov

Rahim Pirmuhamedov, one of the first Uzbek film actors, was born in Tashkent in 1896. He graduated from the Moscow Uzbek Drama Studio in 1930. He began his acting career in 1918 in an Uzbek theater troupe (now the Hamza Uzbek State Academic Drama Theater) and later worked in theaters in Samarkand and Namangan.

From 1927, Rahim Pirmuhamedov performed several roles in silent films, gradually improving his skills through roles such as Akramkhan in director K. Gertel's "Wolves of Ravot" (1927), a peasant in "Under the Mosque Domes" (1928), and Jo'raboy in O. Frelix's "The Umbrella Cart" (1928). He created the image of Rahim the policeman in the first Uzbek sound film, A. Usoltsev's "The Oath" (1937). 

Later, he created realistic characters such as the Emir's spy in Ya. Protazanov's "Nasreddin in Bukhara" (1943), a caravanserai guard in N. Ganiev's "Tahir and Zohra" (1945), and Ko'sa in "Nasreddin's Adventures".
R. Pirmuhamedov worked on himself and constantly sought self-improvement. As a result of diligently learning the secrets of the performing arts from mature actors like P. Ya. Protazanov and L. Sverdlin, he succeeded in creating diverse characters such as Abdulmalik in K. Yormatov's "Alisher Navoi" (1947), Abdulkhayr in "Abu Ali ibn Sina" (1957), Traktorist Polvon in N. Ganiev's "Daughter of Fergana" (1948), and Ikrom in Z. Sobitov's "Children" (1959).

The negative characters created by the actor in the 60s, such as the Killer in Yo'ldosh A'zamov's "Furqat" (1959), the Qushbegi in "Past Days" (1959), Arslonbek in Shuhrat Abbosov's "Everyone's Talking in the Neighborhood" (1960), and the cinema inspector in "You Are Not an Orphan" (1963), stand out for their truthfulness, fullness, richness of satirical colors, and national character.

R. Pirmuhamedov created nearly 50 diverse characters with different worldviews and personalities in film, contributing to the Uzbek film art. The artist also worked in the field of screenwriting, creating the script for "The Truth-telling Fool".

The rich creative work of the famous Uzbek film actor R. Pirmuhamedov was duly awarded the titles of "People's Artist of Uzbekistan" and "People's Artist," as well as a number of orders and medals. R. Pirmuhamedov, a great figure of Uzbek film art, passed away in Tashkent in 1972.

Rahim Pirmuhamedov, who began his career in silent films and created dozens of immortal characters in feature films such as "Nasreddin in Bukhara", "Tahir and Zohra", "Nasreddin's Adventures", "Alisher Navoi", and "Everyone's Talking in the Neighborhood", rendered great service in the development of Uzbek film art.
